The Gig

 

As we continue to build our in-house engineering team, we're looking for a product design engineer who is strategically and conceptually strong, fluent in their craft and capable of design and development of mechanical components within a 3D and 2D environment for assigned projects, from concept to production. This role will report to the Mechanical Team Lead in our Lumen Australia office in Hallam.



You'll Get To...

  • Carry out technical product design and mechanical engineering.

  • Design & develop complex 3D and 2D components and assemblies, with consideration to plastic tooling and moulding processes, metal tooling, casting and forming processes and product assembly fixtures for both Prototyping and Production components.

  • Ensure automotive standard product development and quality processes are adhered to including SOR, APQP, FMEA, PPAP and DVP&R and the satisfaction of ISO/IATF 16949:2002 requirements.

  • Review of engineering designs before release with support of BOM and 2D documentation release.

  • DFM, DFMA consideration and 8D issue resolution process.

  • Advising on the feasibility and optimisation of product, tool and manufacturing requirements.

  • Contribute to Lumen Freedom Mechanical Design team continuous improvement initiatives

  • Perform mechanical engineering calculations, modelling, FEA, DFM and other technical analysis with generation of associated reports,

  • Ensure that all design projects are completed within budget and time.

  • Involvement with the full project life cycle – from concept to manufacture.

  • Advise on material selection for mechanical products & support customer or supplier technical queries.

  • Design and Release mechanical components and assemblies. 

  • Use Lumen 2D & 3D CAD software to design and release component and assembly drawings.

  • Develop mechanical components and assemblies from concept to production tool release.

  • Participate in concept reviews and provide advice on component design requirements. 

  • Support the development of DVP&R test plans and FMEA.

  • Project management

  • Take ownership and execute all assigned project development activities.



Who We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience using Catia design software. Solidworks experience beneficial.

  • Experience in technical product design

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Preferably some project management experience

  • Able to multitask and effectively prioritize workload to complete tasks within time constraints.

  • Proactive approach to all tasks.
